Sodium thiomethoxide is an organic compound with the molecular formula CH3NaS. It is a colorless, transparent liquid with a foul odor. It is a strongly alkaline liquid and can be used as a raw material for pesticides, medicines, dye intermediates , and an antidote for hydrogen sulfide poisoning . Sodium thiomethoxide is the sodium salt of methyl mercaptan, which can be oxidized by iodine to dimethyl disulfide (CH3SSCH3) and analyzed accordingly. Sodium thiomethoxide reacts with sulfuric acid to produce methyl mercaptan. Sodium thiomethoxide can be used in the synthesis of pesticides and other chemicals. |
